OBJECTIVES

✓ Complex research in mechanics, physics and chemistry of condensed media, modelling of natural and technological processes and phenomena, development of methods for forecasting natural and man-made disasters, modelling of non-classical molecular systems, molecular design and synthesis of new polyfunctional compounds for molecular electronics and photonics, development of methods for creating active and nanomaterials for solar energy and micro-, opto- and nanoelectronics systems, design and development of multiprocessor systems for solar energy and micro-, opto- and nanoelectronics systems, development and creation of multi-processor systems for the development of solar energy systems.

AREAS OF ACTIVITY

✓ Research of physical bases of obtaining functional materials, thin-film technologies on the basis of nonlinear dielectrics and nanoheterostructures in order to create new generation microelectronics devices.

✓ Theoretical modelling and directed synthesis of polyfunctional compounds with special properties for materials of molecular electronics and medical chemistry.

✓ Development of methods and means of optimisation of information exchanges in high-performance multiprocessor computer systems with the purpose of their application in different spheres of activity.

✓ Development of methods, technologies and elements of innovative devices and systems for scientific research of natural environments.

✓ Development and creation of instruments, sensors and devices for determining various environmental parameters, including fluorescent methods. The developed devices are intended for water intake, fishery, scientific and environmental organisations, as well as for monitoring of environmental conditions and natural hazards.

✓ Development of methods for the synthesis of multifunctional carbon materials from renewable bioresources for use as sorbents, electrode materials, including those used in new energy sources, and for biomedicine.

Over the last few years, the department has been enriched with two new youth laboratories. In addition to conducting complex fundamental and applied research and development of new directions, the staff of the Department regularly participate in the organisation of exhibitions, demonstrating their developments and achievements (Festival of Science of the South of Russia, International Festival ‘Ot Vinta!’, Festival ‘Vospetaya Steppe’, etc.).

Leading researchers of the SSC RAS in natural sciences and engineering fields review many leading journals of Russia and abroad, including those included in the list of VAK, Q1 and Q2 (SCOPUS, WoS). Young scientists are winners of various competitions and have been honoured with awards.
